Possibly stupid question from possibly stupid American
Yeah, it’s Red Dwarf’s fictional currency (that originated from the novels, I believe).
i never realised how much Doug (and possibly Rob’s) influence of Blade Runner.
not only is there the notion of the combined currency system. But also Esperanto being the secondary language to English.
Well, i didnt mean that esperanto was in Blade runner, but more the idea of a society colluding from two seperate nations. Such as the american/japanese type stuff.
Like Firefly….Who’da thunk it! Red Dwarf was influenced by Joss Whedan!!
I think it was introduced so it would appeal to both British and American audiences.

Is there such a thing as a dollarpound? In White Hole, Lister not only makes a reference to the dollarpound, but the Toaster’s listed retail price is $£19.99. Or is it meant to imply that in the future our currencies have merged?
