Fuck the BBC. (they are no longer interested in the audience blah blah etc.)
Stamp out Iain Lee.

Thank pete part three.
And lot of other things that end in eee.
I watched that, and it’s pretty much the same I feel having watched those deleted scene’s. In that dafter jokes, and madder performances do not add, they take away consistent mood of the characters arch. I do still really like the porn magazine jokes, and those are on the line for me, as to wether it’s better with those in or out, the scene does feel too long and uneven with the whole of it in the show, but I think there was other edits that could work in that scene for longer running time, but mostly the rest they chose well what to cut.
Watching it in this edit I wondered all the more if they would have been better with Don Warrington in it more, as one kind of character that was both the captain and the inspector of the star bug crew.
>the worries about Series X guest stars
Which worries?
I know there was one guest actor that Cappsy wasn’t keen on in one of his reports… but that was very much an exception (and even then, a fair few people disagreed with him).
I can’t think of a weak guest appearance in any of the episodes I saw. Episode six, in particular, features possibly the most universally superb guest cast I can recall across the entirety of RD.
There’s also one other actor I’m a bit iffy about but, yes, other than that I thought the guest cast was excellent (and surprisingly numerous).
Great stuff Pete Part Three. The original edit is the best comically but really good to see the full length version of legend.
Also Bobby is king of the Smeg Ups in this episode. ‘Well now I understand, oh, I’ve just forgotten what I understood there.’
Hatties deleted scene works really well until it cuts to the sleeping quarters with Holly in the background. This can be explained logically of course but still looks a little odd.
Matthew Marsh is ridiculously over the top with that hand jive he’s got going on. It’s almost as if he’s not taking it seriously.
>Which worries?
I don’t know where I got this from specifically but I assume it was Cappsy’s comment in one of the set reports. I was slightly uneasy with an actor in Episode 1, but only because it’s an “important” character. I think this enforced my thoughts that there was some concern about some of them, but I guess that’s me projecting!

What? More superb than Jenny Agutter? I seriously doubt it….***sigh***

What he said.

More superb than Jenny Agutter in Red Dwarf, yes, although none of them got their minge out like she does in Walkabout.
To be frank, I was half-way through this and realised I was undoing a really fantastic edit. Holoship, while not a huge favourite of mine, moves along at a great pace while there’s moments here which turn it into a slow crawl. Pretty much everything that was deleted originally deserved to be.
I’d go with that. If anything, this extended version shows what a part the edit played in making this a good episode.
I’ll have to watch this when I get home from work, but I’m pleased someone’s done it. Thanks, Pete Part Three. Thete Thart Thhree.
So that was fascinating. I think the episode definitely benefited from the tighter broadcast edit, although it was a shame to lose some of the stuff between Rimmer and Nirvana.
Thanks for putting this together.

Ah, but I said “universally” superb. Psirens may have Agutter, but it also has Miss GE’ OOTA THA BELT WHILE YA STILL CAN!

Inspired by Ben’s comments in the 25th Anniversary thread, I decided to have go at creating an extended version of Holoship, reinstating the numerous removed lines and the one deleted scene from the DVD.

You can see the joins due to the sound-levels and filters, but pretty much everything is back where it was intended at the script stage. It runs at 35.48 mins, compared to the 27.56 mins of the original edit.

Holoship, while not a huge favourite of mine, moves along at a great pace while there’s moments here which turn it into a slow crawl. Pretty much everything that was deleted originally deserved to be - not least some truly bizarre moments by Matthew Marsh as Hercule Platini. This guy’s performance was saved by the editor and this may be worth bearing in mind in light of the worries about Series X guest stars.
I don’t expect it to be online for long, but I primarily did this for my amusement, but if anyone else takes any interest in that, that’s a bonus.
